Here's a ref. to a good slide show on a trip in open sea south of Tasmania. Spectacular, some sailing, it can get quite hairy down there and the water is cold! http://www.vision.net.au/~jennings/maatsuyker/maat.html
I've sailed down there but never paddled though I've been to some of the places on the route.
