The weekend's adventure 12 Months ago
Greetings,

Paul here, from St. Louis Park, Minnesota. St. Louis Park is just outside of Minneapolis "City of Lakes".

A friend of mine found a Grumman sail rig on craiglsist and we split the modest cost together. I own a Grumman Model 17. For it's maiden voyage, we took it out on the lake near where he lives and, after sailing a few perfect circles, we discovered that rudder control is a very important aspect of steering a boat.

The next day we rigged up some better controls for the rudder and had a much better sail that day. We also devised a system by which the sail can be hoisted from the aft portion of the canoe allowing a solo sailor to paddle out a bit from shore and drop the lee-boards before being subjected to the perils of the wind. Having decent rudder control makes all the difference!

I'd attach a picture of our rig but comon sense prevents me from bring any delicate electronics along to the lake, and transportation restrictions prevent me from having the rig assembled any where else but the lake. Someday I'll snap a shot of it.
