A Simple Gunwhale Clip Print E-mail

The objective is to make 2 bends in the ring. The outboard bend is close to the edge 1/8” to ¼” and the barb it creates will be what locks into the outboard groove of the gunwhale.

The inboard bend in the ring is farther from the edge ½” to ¾”and curls under the inboard side of the gunwhale.

Make several, once you get one that works for your purpose- mark the unmade ones so you know where to make the bends.

The finished clip should look something like this.

Attaching the clip is straight forward but removing the clip is counter intuitive. To attach the clip - slip the inboard side of the clip under the gunwhale. Then push down on the bowed top of the clip until the outboard barb clicks in the gunwale groove.

To remove the clip, press down on the bowed top of the clip, which will push the outboard barb down. While pushing down with one hand on the clip pull the outboard barb away from the boat, then lift. Once the barb is free slide the clip off in the inboard direction.

What you attach to the clip is up to you.
