SOME INFORMATION TO HELP YOU PLAN:  Weather permitting, we will be sailing in the Pamlico Sound, Cedar Island Bay, or the Core Sound. Weather:  A statistical mean Cedar Island October day is about 72° high and 59° low.  The water temperature is about 70°.  The wind is North to Northeast at 11 to 13 m.p.h.  The relative humidity is 55% to 85% and there is 58% cloud cover. Although this is the statistical probability, we are looking at late October and the probability of cold fronts increases.  Late October cold fronts usually bring some wet weather with highs in the 60°s and lows in the low 50°s.  Bring warm foul-weather gear.  October fronts can also bring winds of 15 to 30 m.p.h. or more, hard core kayak sailing weather.  Bring plenty of floatation and safety gear and small or reefable sails if you have them.  Expect winds from light to gale force.  For the first two years we had winds from light to moderate but both times we have had a gale blow in right after the gathering.  The third year we held the gathering a week later at the full moon and we got a Hatteras Gale with winds gusting to well over 35 knots.  The hard core sailors with reefable sails loved it.  The rule is: come prepared for anything.
