Look, im a rookie sailor but experienced in the wind. It seems that the net force of most mains is in a downward fashion; wind hits sail, wind goes up and back, resulting in forwrd, thanks to buoyancy.This is not true for spinnakers, fore's, squares, kite boarders..... Is there some calculated reasoning for all of this?

Sure, a kite will lift you upward and this will lower drag.
Same thing for boats that "counter-heel" against the wind like windsurfs or a Moth International with foils.

So sail shape revolves around what you easily hang off a mast more than aerodynamic function? See i received an old Sunfish and had a dream of flying the sail like a kite whilst mast bound. Ever seen a ship full of foresail-like mains?
