MicroBootlegger sail 6 Months ago
New member in NE Minnesota thinking of spring.
I want to make a large cockpit kayak as the Guillmot Micro-Bootlegger and add a small sail to it. Any suggestions on type of sail etc?

I say lateen(note avatar), others may differ. Its simple and works. Ed'll say bamboo. Others will rattle off the list of styles for me. Did YOU build it?; it will come. Point is; preference is power. Pics?

Sweet thinkin! Can we buy plans for that? Thanks for the lateen example Ed. I do believe the lateen style is more efficient and suiting to your craft MB. Have you a kit or plans?

Thanks for the suggestions!
I have not yet bought the plans but hope to soon. Just trying to look ahead to what should be built in to the craft as I go. I picked this design to use as a solo paddler and with sail up in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness just up the road. Maybe some long trip after I retire in the next few years.
So light weight is part of the equation with me. Bamboo?

Bamboo. Go to the Article & Subject Index in the left hand column and do a search for a few articles on the subject.

I still suggest a batwing since it's more efficient than a lateen and can be reefed.
